Athlete Interview: Paul Fowler

Athlete Interview: Paul Fowler

Paul was part of our 2017 Pioneer team. He signed up for five triathlons that year, despite not being able to swim! So he took part as a team of two with his friend Jennifer Davidson, who did the swim and the run, and Paul did the bike.

Here he tells us about their experience:

“Jennifer did the swim she was amazing! I did the cycle and Jennifer finished the run section.

My bike ride was amazing. It was my first time ever cycling in the dark on a road bike in a race! All was going well until my granny ring on the bike broke – GULP!!!

It was just before the final hill climb to the chairlift, which I had to do in my big ring that was so tough Just as well I like hills!

Then Jennifer took over the run and had an incredible race herself. It was an epic event and stunning location which I will be coming back to do solo soon.

And then, to top it off, we actually came in first in the Pairs Category – we were buzzing! Such a great event – I would recommend it to anyone wanting a different but challenging triathlon.

I finished all five triathlons that year with a massive smile at the end of every one.

I now spend all my time in open water, running a hill or a mountain somewhere, or on my bike. Life outdoors is so amazing and it keeps you fit. Before I started all this fitness stuff I was over 20 stone and very unfit – just shows you with a bit of will power and determination you can achieve anything!!”

It was an absolute pleasure to have you both complete Starman in 2017 and we can’t wait to welcome you back soon!
